RTO Installation in China Destroys VOC Emissions By 98%+

Continuing to expand their global presence, The CMM Group installed a Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer in Dongguan, China when a Chinese manufacturer of evaporative cooling pads (used in the agriculture industry) approached them to destroy VOC emissions from the corrugating process.

The manufacturer needed a reliable solution that operated 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to efficiently control the phenol emissions and turned to The CMM Group for help.

Located in Tianjin, China, one of the world’s leading petro-chemical companies needed to destroy VOC emissions from their purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plant.

What Does a Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer Design look like?

The Basic RTO Design Concept:

Regenerative Thermal Oxidizers destroy VOC emissions by creating a chemical reaction within the air pollutant and oxygen at elevated temperatures.

This reaction destroys VOC emissions in the air stream by converting them to gas, water and heat.

Three critical, interdependent factors control the rate of reaction:

What is a Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer?

A Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer (RTO) is an industrial system that destroys volatile organic compounds (VOC’s) in process exhaust air before it pollutes the environment. Historically, RTO’s have been used extensively in industries producing a high waste stream containing low VOC concentrations such as paint manufacturing, printing and food processing, among others.

How Does a Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer Work?

Pollutant Destruction Phase

1. The process begins with a high-pressure supply fan that forces exhaust fumes into the Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer.

2. Inlet switch valves direct the pollutant-laden air into one of the energy recovery canisters.

3. The air continues to travel from the valve assembly up through the first heat exchanger canister where heat is absorbed from the ceramic media.

4. The preheated air moves into the combustion chamber and is held at an elevated temperature close to that required for oxidation.

5. The pollutant is destroyed while in the combustion chamber.
