RTO Installation in China Destroys VOC Emissions By 98%+

Continuing to expand their global presence, The CMM Group installed a Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer in Dongguan, China when a Chinese manufacturer of evaporative cooling pads (used in the agriculture industry) approached them to destroy VOC emissions from the corrugating process.

The manufacturer needed a reliable solution that operated 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to efficiently control the phenol emissions and turned to The CMM Group for help.

The RTO installation was a success. Installed on a concrete pad, the new 8,000 SCFM (12,500 NCMH) Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer successfully destroys the emissions by 98%+.

The CMM Group recently opened The […]

The CMM Group installs Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer at China Petro-Chemical Plant

Located in Tianjin, China, one of the world’s leading petro-chemical companies needed to destroy VOC emissions from their purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plant.

The emissions that resulted from the manufacturing process included methyl acetate, xylene, benzene, methyl bromide, methanol, and CO.
Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer Installation – CMM Group Opens China Based Office
After reviewing several VOC abatement technologies, the company hired The CMM Group to install a 22,500 SCFM (35,500 NM3/Hr) 3-canister Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer which achieves 99% VOC destruction with 95% TER (thermal energy recovery).

The CMM Group recently opened The CMM Group (China) Limited, their Beijing, China office to assist Chinese based manufacturing […]

Custom Industrial Oven Case Study

Food Processing Equipment Manufacturers, such as The CMM Group, provide custom production equipment to meet a variety of needs.

One of America’s largest frozen pizza manufacturers contracted The CMM Group to engineer an infrared pre-melter, (commonly known as an IR cheese pre-melter). The custom designed production machine equipment replaced the company’s existing convection oven pre-melters.

The IR cheese pre-melter oven fused cheese and pizza toppings together by emitting a flash of heat to the top of a frozen pizza in order to reduce topping movement during packaging and distribution of the product. The industrial oven provided the manufacturer with the freedom […]

10 Things You Need to Know When Evaluating Food Processing Equipment Manufacturers

10 Things You Need to Know When Evaluating Food Processing Equipment Manufacturers

The search for food processing equipment manufacturers can be time consuming and difficult if you don’t have a standardized process to follow. Since product testing can’t be done prior to purchase, decisions are typically made entirely on cost, a vendor’s credibility and design data.

If you want to avoid unexpected costs or retrofits, it’s important to take the time to provide vendors with a complete definition of your food processing equipment requirements.

We’ve put together a check-list of criteria below to help you develop a list of detailed specifications you can use to submit a formal RFQ (request for quotation) to […]

What Does a Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer Design look like?

The Basic RTO Design Concept:

Regenerative Thermal Oxidizers destroy VOC emissions by creating a chemical reaction within the air pollutant and oxygen at elevated temperatures.

This reaction destroys VOC emissions in the air stream by converting them to gas, water and heat.

Three critical, interdependent factors control the rate of reaction:

1. Time
2. Temperature
3. Turbulence

For specifics on how a RTO works, see: How does a Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer work?
Thermal Oxidizer Design Considerations: How Does Design Affect Costs?
The two most popular types of primary heat recovery are Recuperative and Regenerative oxidizers, each with their own distinct advantages and disadvantages. While Recuperative oxidizers generally require […]

What is a Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer?

A Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer (RTO) is an industrial system that destroys volatile organic compounds (VOC’s) in process exhaust air before it pollutes the environment. Historically, RTO’s have been used extensively in industries producing a high waste stream containing low VOC concentrations such as paint manufacturing, printing and food processing, among others.

How an RTO Works at a Glance

While the process itself is rather complex, at a high level, Regenerative Thermal Oxidizers force process exhaust fumes in one direction over a passive heat exchanger, sending a stream of clean (cooled) air through the exhaust stack out to the atmosphere.

Typical applications range […]

How Does a Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer Work?

Pollutant Destruction Phase

1. The process begins with a high-pressure supply fan that forces exhaust fumes into the Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer.

2. Inlet switch valves direct the pollutant-laden air into one of the energy recovery canisters.

3. The air continues to travel from the valve assembly up through the first heat exchanger canister where heat is absorbed from the ceramic media.

4. The preheated air moves into the combustion chamber and is held at an elevated temperature close to that required for oxidation.

5. The pollutant is destroyed while in the combustion chamber.

The Clean Air Cycle

6. Once out of the combustion chamber, the clean, […]

VOC Emission Control System Specification Checklist

It’s no secret distinguishing the difference between one VOC control system manufacturer’s offerings and another can be challenging. Since product testing can’t be done prior to purchase, decisions are often made solely on a vendor’s credibility and design data.

So how can you be certain the VOC emission control system you choose will not only meet your needs, but also provide years of trouble-free service long into the future?

The answer is not in asking the right questions, but providing the right information when submitting a formal RFQ (request for quotation) to VOC abatement system manufacturers.

Rather than submitting a general request […]

How to Select the Right VOC Abatement System for Your Operation
(Part 2)

In part 2 of this series, we’ve defined a step-by-step checklist of criteria you can use to develop a list of specifications and project requirements you’ll need when submitting a formal RFQ (request for quotation) to VOC abatement system manufacturers, just as you would when acquiring sophisticated production equipment.

Consider the 10 important criteria to consider when developing your request for quotation:

Determine the Total Number of Emission Points (Exhaust Stacks) to be Controlled
In most VOC abatement technologies, an atmospheric/bypass tee-damper is required at each emission point.

This is an important consideration because the system’s electrical control design changes, based […]
