When a leading Wisconsin heat-set web printing operation that produces billions of labels annually needed to replace an aging, inefficient thermal recuperative oxidizer with a modern, energy efficient emission control system, they turned to The CMM Group.

The CMM RTO is designed to provide a 99%+ destruction efficiency for the maximum 170 pounds per hour of printing solvent VOCs present in the exhaust emissions from up to six graphic arts printing presses that operate 24 hours per day, 5 days per week. Installed on an outdoor concrete pad, the CMM unit also provides a 95% thermal efficiency to help reduce natural gas usage.

To eliminate potential odor problems and avoid continuing maintenance problems with three older catalytic oxidizers, a large graphic arts printer selected a Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer from The CMM Group to control the emissions generated from seven full web presses.

In addition to solving the odor and maintenance issues, the CMM RTO also generated energy savings for the company by reducing its natural gas consumption. The 20,000 scfm unit destroyed 99% of the 40 to 75 pounds per hour of magie oils VOCs generated by the web offset presses during the company’s 24 hour per day, 6 days per week production schedule. A primary heat exchanger rated for 95% nominal thermal efficiency was also provided as an integrated part of the oxidizer that was installed on an outdoor concrete pad.

To increase heat recovery and destruction efficiency, a leading provider of flexible packaging to the food, consumer products, product sampling and direct marketing industries selected a Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer from The CMM Group to replace on older, existing air pollution control system.

The new 15,000 scfm RTO is designed to destroy 98%+ of the 50 pounds per hour of pollutants present in the exhaust from the printing presses generated during the company’s 24/7 operation. The CMM RTO can also recover up to 95% of the 1,400°F heat generated as the air flow is exchanged between two heat recovery chambers. The heavily insulated chambers are filled with ceramic media to absorb the heat and maintain the high temperature, resulting in significant savings in the amount of energy needed to fuel the system.
